Rwanda Congo Nile Trail

altCongo Nile Trail in Rwanda is a new 227 km lifetime hiking experience in Rwanda's mountains and hills. It was recently developped by the  innovative Rwanda Developpement Board - RDB. Congo Nile Trail will take visitors to the continental watershed, from where Africas two most important rivers, the Nile and the Congo are being fed.

The trail was inaugurated in Gisenyi on 25 November 2011 in time for the high season when tourists from around the world are expected to flock to Rwanda for gorilla trekking tours, and with Rwanda now well connected directly by air by airlines such as Rwandair, Brussels Airlines, KLM or ethiopian amongst others. Though getting to The Land of a Thousand Hills has become easier than ever before.

Back to Congo Nile trail, there are eight base camps  along which two main sections of spectacular hiking  which can be done and in addition as many as four sub trails will lead off to attractions quite close to the main trails. The 227 km is from Gisenyi - Rubavu a beautiful beach town on lake Kivu to Rusizi passing through the districts of Karongi and Nyamasheke going south. Those who dare to take the trail will be rewarded with extraordinary insight into not just the facts of the continental water divide but will come face to face with a little touched wilderness, birds, game, insects and a flora second to none.

 

Gisenyi is situated across DR.Congo’s Goma  providing various opportunities to explore Lake Kivu through speed boats and also enjoy watching the various bird species along the lake thus making it the ideal place for the bird watching but also it is the perfect place to view that magnificent scenery unfolds in front of visitors’ eyes. Foot Routes have been developed with in the forests that are close by the tourists who often go through the forest to watch the birds and listen to that wild music in a peaceful and quiet place. While in the area, one can never fail to find accommodation facilities since there are a number facilities which are first class category like the Kivu Serena hotel which is a modern and a classic hotel and has attracted so many tourists to the area because of their professionalism than before its construction.


A ten day trail, shorter sections will be available it was reliably learned, allows tourists to walk the forests, mountains and hills of Rwanda and trail the divide over a distance of 227 kilometres between Rubavu to Rusizi, Rwanda presently has three national parks, the world renowned Parc de Volanoes, the Home of the Mountain Gorillas, the Nyungwe National Park and the countrys sole savannah park Akagera. The new trail though is expanding the countrys nature experiences to new areas in line with a long standing policy of diversification, which in recent years saw birding trails and lake cruises introduced for the benefit of repeat visitors to the country.
